AfrAsia Bank is the First Mauritian Bank to join the GRI Community

AfrAsia Bank has achieved another milestone on its sustainability journey by being the first Mauritian Bank to join the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Community, as global sustainability ambassador since April 2019.

GRI is an international independent organisation, which pioneered sustainability reporting since 1997 offering its members a unique learning-exchange space to drive greater transparency and dialogue in the field of sustainability. Since its inception, they have not only established GRI Standards but have transformed it from a niche practice to one now adopted by a growing majority of organisations.

Luvna Arnassalon-Seerungen, Head of Corporate Sustainability and CSR said, “The future of reporting of AfrAsia Bank will be determined by the partnerships that we forge with the change makers. Joining the GRI community is an important breakthrough in our sustainability journey and links to our strategic integrative path.”

AfrAsia has been strengthening its sustainability agenda in various ways. Through the GRI network, the Bank aims to reinforce its role as a sustainability leader and to engage with experts not only to drive sustainability forward in businesses’ but also by positively impacting sustainable development agendas to support Mauritius.

  1. The adoption of the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards (GRI Standards) have enabled organisations to align the way they do sustainability reporting. Noting the great strides AfrAsia Bank is taking to embed responsible business practices and demonstrating sustainability leadership within the region, according to Douglas Kativu, Director GRI Africa, “sharing and co-creating with the global GRI community will enhance value creation for the bank and its stakeholders.” In line with SDG 17 – Partnerships for Goals, this partnership with the GRI will facilitate to forge strong relationships with international players in the sustainability fields.
